Virginio Joaquin Raposo Pereira, age 72, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Taunton, Massachusetts. Born in Relva, São Miguel, Portugal, Virginio lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and simple joys. In Portugal, he dedicated over three decades of his life to his craft as a butcher in São Miguel. Outside of work, he found happiness in the countryside—milking cows on weekends and hunting during any season, activities that kept him connected to the land he loved. In 2005, Virginio immigrated to the United States, where he continued his strong work ethic as a baker. No matter where he was, his Portuguese roots remained close to his heart. He loved sitting by his radio listening to Portuguese music, a familiar comfort that always brought him peace. Virginio was known for his love of dominoes and his competitive spirit—always ready to play anyone who dared to challenge him. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially going out to dinner together, laughing, talking, and enjoying one another’s company. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donaria Santos Silva Pereira. Virginio is survived by his children: Pedro Pereira and his wife Christine Pereira, Carla Pereira and her husband Tiago Torres, Milton Pereira and his wife Michelle Aguiar, and Cristina Lima. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Nicole, Kayla, Xiomara, Silvia, Lorenzo, and Jace, each of whom brought him immense joy. Virginio will be remembered for his warmth, his dedication to his family, his love of tradition, and the quiet moments that mattered most to him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the memories they will forever cherish.
