It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Angelo Tartufo, 84, of Taunton, formerly of Mansfield, on March 10, 2025 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. Robert is survived by his devoted lifelong partner and soulmate, Mary Ann Mozzone; his former wife, Joan Tartufo; and their loving children: Lisa Tartufo and wife Beth, Michelle Tartufo and wife Fran, Melissa Rapoza and husband Russell, and Bobbi Anne Tartufo. He was the proud grandfather of Robert Rapoza, Carly Rapoza, and Kiara Wood, and a cherished brother to Edward Tartufo and wife Kathy. He also leaves behind his nephews, Paul and Brian, many cousins, dear friends, and former students who were deeply influenced by his guidance and mentorship. Robert was predeceased by his beloved parents, Emma (Morini) and Alphonse Tartufo. Robert dedicated 37 years of his life to the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District as a Physical Education teacher, coach, and Assistant Athletic Director. In 1964, he founded the physical education department for the Raynham Schools, creating a program that would shape the lives of generations. In honor of his dedication to the community and lifelong passion for sports, the gymnasium at the LaLiberte School was named after him. While he briefly coached high school football, Robert found his greatest joy in mentoring middle school students, fostering their athletic skills and confidence. He was a co-founder of the league and played an instrumental role in establishing the Kevin McKinney Memorial Scholarship Tournament, leaving a lasting impact on the community. An award in his name, the Robert Tartufo Scholar-Athlete Award, is given to two deserving students each year at Raynham Middle School. Beyond his professional achievements, Robert lived a life filled with love and passion. He found joy in boating and cherished summers at New Silver Beach, surrounded by family and friends. He delighted in working around his yard and spending time with his Labrador retrievers—Sophie, Buddy, Becca, and his current companion, Sosa. In our sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Robert’s profound lessons, steadfast love, and cherished memories will remain with us forever. He touched countless lives with his generosity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication, and his legacy will live on through the hearts of all who knew him. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or to the Kevin McKinney Scholarship Fund. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, March 14, 2025, at O'Keefe Wade Funeral Home in Taunton from 4:00–7:00 PM. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, MA, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
