Mariano Sousa

On January 26, 2026, Mariano J. Sousa, age 74 of Taunton passed away peacefully in Providence, RI at the Hope Hospice Care Center. After a long, strong battle with several illnesses, he succumbed to the illnesses. Mariano was born on the island of Sao Miguel Azores, in the city of Vila Franca do Campo. In 1978 he left behind his mother Maria Cabral and his father Antonio Sousa and immigrated his family to the United States of America to pursue a new life. Mariano was a God loving man. We pray for a swift trip to Heaven where he may find eternal peace and happiness forever. Mariano worked as a skilled laborer all his life. He loved a good laugh, was mostly quiet, and had a sweet soul. He loved a sunny day, because that meant he could do one of his favorite things like work in his gorgeous garden. He could grow it all, he was known to have a green thumb. He loved watching his favorite sport soccer especially his favorite team Portugal with his family and friends. Mariano is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Eduarda (Silva) Sousa as well as his daughter Monica Sousa, his son Christopher Sousa and wife Kathryn. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren who he deeply adored: Dylan Hall, Cameron, Kaleb and Cade Sousa. He is survived by his 3 sisters and late brother. Calling hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Tuesday, February 3rd from 9-10:30 AM follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Anthony’s Church in Taunton at 11 AM. Interment at St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. We want to thank the staff at the Hospice Center for their kindness and always going above and beyond for our family.
