Margaret "Peggy" Cunha

In New Bedford, Margaret “Peggy” Cunha, age 93, passed away at Care One of New Bedford on January 27, 2026 following a lengthy illness. Peggy was the wife of the late Gilbert Cunha Sr. She was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Frederick Whittle and Jeannette (Hall) Whittle. Peggy resided in Taunton until her health declined. She attended Taunton schools, raised her family here and worked in manufacturing. Peggy primarily was a stay at home mom, she was devoted to her loving children, grandchildren and family. Peggy leaves her beloved children Claire Murphy and husband Ronald of FL, Richard Cunha and wife Bonnie of Taunton, Linda Cunha of Taunton, Anne MacLeod and husband Doug of Taunton, and Gilbert Cunha Jr. of Taunton. She also leaves her cherished 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Peggy was the sibling of the late Leroy Whittle, Jeannette Hoeg, MaryLou Pellegrino “Peggy’s twin”, and William Whittle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton on Friday, February 6th at 11 am. Her burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
