Lawrence E. "Larry" Newman

In Taunton, August 30, 2024 Lawrence E. “Larry” Newman Jr. husband of Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Linhares) Newman died in his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73. Born in Taunton, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Hebert) Newman Sr. Larry was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1969 and received his Associates degree in criminal justice at Bristol Community College. He was a retired Police Detective for the City of Taunton for over thirty four years and the Town of Berkley for over ten years. He also was a proud owner of Newman Construction for over twenty years. Larry was a well loved public servant who dedicated many years to serving the residence of Taunton and Berkley. Larry served as the Department of Parks & Recreation Commissioner for many years. He was an avid member of the Italian Social Club where he enjoyed playing bocce and hosting diners. He was the founder of the Greater Taunton Charitable Association. Larry’s countless hours of dedication has earned his recognition throughout the City of Taunton. He spent most of his retirement working on custom wood pieces in his woodworking shop. Larry was the loving father of Lawrence E. Newman III and his wife Amy of Dighton and Matthew J. Newman and his wife Colleen of Dighton. Grandfather of Caleb, Camryn, Matthew and Riley Newman all of Dighton. Brother of David Newman and his wife Jane of Taunton. Calling hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Thursday, September 5th from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at St Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
