Jose Enrique Fernandez

TAUNTON-Jose Enrique Fernandez, 97, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 28, 2026. He is reunited with his love, Ligia M. Estrella Fernandez. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, he was the son of Jose de Jesus Fernandez and Ana Mercedes (Almanza) Fernandez. He was the beloved husband of the late Ligia M. Estrella Fernandez. Together, they immigrated to the United States in search of a better life, building a strong and loving foundation for their family. Known to his loved ones as “Papa” and “Abuelo,” Jose will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, and deep devotion to family. He found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved, sharing meals, stories, and laughter across generations. He is survived by his children, Jose A. Fernandez, Enrique Fernandez, Adela Weyer, Ligia DePaiva, Mayra Santiago, Maria C. Joe, Jose V. Fernandez, and Raymond Fernandez; twenty-five grandchildren; more than forty-six great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his many siblings in the New Jersey; and countless lifelong friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation at O’Keefe & Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780, on Sunday, May 3, from 5–8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 4, at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Ave., Taunton. Burial will follow at Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton.
