John S. Duarte

In New Bedford, April 30, 2025 John S. Duarte husband of the late Dolores (Alegi) Duarte died with his family by his side at the age of 92. Born and educated in Taunton, John was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Pinheiro) Duarte. He was a retired Silver Smith for Reed & Barton Silver Company in Taunton and after that went on to work for Morton Hospital in environmental Services. He was a member of the Taunton Boat Club and he enjoyed boating, Cape Cod, Christmas time, Boston Red Sox and spending time with his grandchildren. He was the loving father of Lynn Souza and her husband Bob of Assonet, Donna Ross and her husband Doug of Taunton and Carol Duarte of New Bedford. Grandfather of Matthew Souza and his wife Melissa of Assonet, Bailey Thomas and her husband Max of Assonet, Sydney Souza of Assonet, Brooks, Drew and Kiana Ross of Taunton, Jake Travis and his wife Heather of Taunton, Kayla Travis of Taunton, Blake and Jada Duarte of New Bedford. Great grandfather of Riley and Linnea Travis of Taunton. Brother of Natalie Donnelly and her husband Bob of Taunton, Nancy Higgins of Ohio and the late Frank Duarte, Mary O’Neill and James Duarte. A service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Tuesday, May 6th at 11 AM. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, 01701.
