Joan Silva Obituary

In Taunton, Joan M. Silva, age 92, passed away peacefully at the Marian Manor Nursing Home on May 2, 2024, following a lengthy period of declining health. Joan was the wife of the late Paul A. Silva. She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John E. Williams and Mary E. (Smith) Williams. Joan had resided in Taunton her entire life. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Joan had worked for both Wheaton College in Norton and Brown University as a faculty secretary before her retirement. She enjoyed going to the beach, music, reading, a nice glass of Chardonnay, and above all cherished her time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan is survived by her two loving daughters; Debra Sunderland and husband James of Dighton and Trudi Brazil and her husband Scott of Truro. She was preceded in death by her son Paul Silva II, and her siblings; John E. Williams Jr. and Mary Dupont. Joan will be missed by her loving grandchildren; Jake Sunderland and wife Diane of Dighton, Joshua Sunderland and wife Jennifer of Taunton, Matthew Brazil and wife Marie of Provincetown, Hannah Brazil and partner Christopher Cowell of Eastham, Paul Brazil and wife Molly of Brewster, and Emily Brazil and partner Kenny Parks of Wellfleet. She also leaves her great grandchildren; Abigail, Andrew, Jamie, Jackson, Harper, Bailey, Blake, Bennett, Natalie, and Roman. Joan is also survived by her brother in law George E. Silva and wife Helena, devoted niece Nancy Ann Silva Franks, as well as several nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Joan was a communicant of the former St. Paul’s Parish in Taunton and more recently of St. Nicholas of Myra in North Dighton. Visiting hours will be prior to her funeral home service at the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 10-11 am. and service at 11 am. Burial will be in the family lot at St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
