James Couto Obituary

In Middleboro, James Couto, age 96, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2025. James was born in Taunton, the son of the late Manuel Couto and Virginia (Camara) Couto. He was the longtime loving companion of the late Barbara Hearrald.  James had been a lifetime resident of Taunton and was educated in Taunton schools. He was employed as a truck driver for Teamsters Local #25 until his retirement. James had many hobbies and interest including raising and showing beagles and greyhounds, raising and racing pigeons, hunting, fishing, dancing, listening to music, boating and spending time with family and friends. James is survived by his children Chad Couto of Stow, VT, Mark Couto of Brockton, Cindy Rose of Berkley, and step children Charles Hearrald and his wife Maria of East Taunton and Kristen Hearrald of Taunton. He also leaves his brother William Couto of East Taunton. James is survived by his loving grandchildren Bonnie Rose, Jaime Walker, Amber Fay, step grandchildren Charles and Kristen Hearrald and great grandchildren Quincy Dixon and Ainsley Coburn. James also leaves many friends. Funeral home visiting hours will be held at the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Wednesday, October 1st from 5-7 PM followed by a prayer service at 7 PM.
