Francis "Greg" Dennehy

In Fall River, Francis G. “Greg” Dennehy, age 84, passed away at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Home of July 19, 2024. Greg was born in Plymouth on May 9, 1940, the son of the late Harold Dennehy and Mildred (Downey) Dennehy. Greg was raised in Plymouth, MA. He attended Plymouth schools and was a graduate of Plymouth High School. Greg grew up playing golf at Plymouth Country Club. He served his country during the Vietnam War while in the U. S. Army. After his service he worked as the golf pro at several local golf courses, including Plymouth Country Club, Kittansett C.C., North Hill C.C., Poquoy Brook, Allendale, Whaling City, and from 1990 to 2019 at Caddy Shack, New Bedford Municipal and the Back Nine. Greg retired from instructing because of health issues in 2020. On his way to becoming an excellent PGA golf pro, Greg helped many people learn the game. Whether he was teaching someone from scratch or just polishing up a three handicap. Everyone would say the same thing when referring to Greg “If you really want to get straightened out go to Greg”!! That was the feeling from Plymouth to Lakeville to Dartmouth. He found great joy and satisfaction from helping people with their golf game and the friends that he made along his journey. He also held the course record at Allendale from 1970-2020 by shooting a 65, and also from Plymouth Country Club from 1960-1999 shooting a 64. Greg leaves behind his only daughter Kathleen Dennehy Schofield and her husband David Schofield Sr. of East Taunton. He also leaves his grandchildren Sarah of Plymouth, David Jr. and Dillon of East Taunton. Greg was the longtime companion of the late Juliette “Judy” Berthiame and her family. A memorial celebration will be held at Allendale Country Club, 1047 Allen Street, Dartmouth, MA on Sunday August 18th from 1-3 PM.
