Eugene L. Lavigne, age 80 of Taunton, passed away peacefully at Sturdy Memorial Hospital on January 20, 2024, with loving family by his side. Gene was the devoted husband of Ann (Dooley) Lavigne, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Gene was born in Taunton, on July 31, 1943, the son of the late Eugene Lavigne and Rita (Marcotte) Lavigne. He was predeceased by his siblings Joanne DeCastro and Robert Lavigne of Taunton.
He retired from the Massachusetts State Police and had previously served 17 years as a Massachusetts Registry Inspector. After retirement, Gene operated his own trucking business and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Gene was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his wife Ann, he is survived by his eight children: Kelly J. Kirby and her husband Kevin of Tampa, FL, Michael E. Lavigne and his wife Christina of Taunton, Steven P. Lavigne and his wife Kimberly of Taunton, Kimberly A. Jones and her husband Paul of Taunton, Karen M. Furtado and her husband Michael of Taunton, Kristin L. George and her husband Tom of Berkley, Kerrianne Hallman and her husband Charles of Shalimar, FL, Kevin M. Lavigne and his girlfriend Ginny Hill of Bridgewater. Gene also leaves 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Grumpy”. He also leaves nieces and nephews.
His children and grandchildren were his biggest joys, a true family man. Grumpy was the best cheerleader, coach, advice-giver, and hand-shaker. With his playful spirit and gift to gab, he always had a story to tell and a joke to share.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 19 Kilmer Ave, Taunton on Tuesday, January 30th at 11:00 am.
Intermet will be private.
