Dorothea Claire Cote, born December 4, 1928 at home in Raynham, MA, and died December 31, 2025 in Norton, MA following a lengthy battle with cancer. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Rosario and Alice (Bennett) Cote, and siblings Eileen (Cote) Smith and husband Alfred; Pearl (Cote) Curran and husband Edward Patrick; and William Cote and wife Ethel (Eames) Cote. For the last two years of her life she was well cared for by Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home staff and Lisa Glover RN from Compassionate Care Hospice. She made many friends during her years there. Dorothea was the fourth child born to Rosario and Alice and from the time she was a little girl, she loved animals above all else. Her Dad brought dogs home to her and any stray or abandoned cat or dog that came through the yard was welcomed and well loved. She attended school in Raynham and after graduating from Taunton High School she worked at Kresges and the Mill remnant Store in Taunton in order to save money for art school. She was accepted to the Modern School of Fashion Design at 480 Boylston St. in Boston, graduating three years later. Her portfolio is a great example of her artistic talent, but her true love and talent is embodied in her prolific works of framed animal portraits which are cherished, as she was, by her nieces and nephews. After graduating from art school, Dot went to work for TWA in Boston as a ticket agent. In the early fifties, Dot’s sister Pearl contracted Polio and Dot transferred to TWA in New York in order to be able to help care for Pearl’s three little boys. Later, Dot travelled to many places in the United States with her friend Pat Guffler. One of her most memorable trips was being able to take her mother to Rome and the Vatican. Dot was devout Catholic and attended mass at St. Ann’s in Raynham with her very best friend of 91 years, Mary Murby Hudson. Donations may be made in Dorothea’s name to the Activities Department at Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home, 55 Newland St., Norton, MA 02766, or Compassionate Care Hospice, 2 Lakeshore Center, Suite 110, Bridgewater, MA 02324 Visit our website www.okeefewade.com to sign the online guestbook, view obituaries and obtain directions.
