Charles Smith Obituary

In Taunton, April 9, 2025, Charles W. Smith, age 91, passed away in Morton Hospital, after a brief period of failing health. He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Taylor) Smith, and the son of the late Frederick H. Smith and Julia (Czackowski) Smith. Charles was a graduate of Taunton High School, class of 1951 and F. Farmer’s Cooking School. He also attended Boston University and the University of Mass extension program. He then went on to receive a degree in Business Management from Fisher Jr. College. Charles served his country honorably while in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years where he was a second class petty officer. As a career employee of the Commonwealth of MA he served in hospital administration as business manager in the following hospitals: Lakeville, Cushing Hospital in Framingham, Pondville Hospital in Norfolk, and Worcester State Hospital. He attended St. Joseph’s Church for his entire life, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Polish Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Dr. Jonathan M. Smith and his wife Refen of PA and Steven F. Smith and his wife Melinda of Oregon, and two daughters, Francene Kemp and her husband Roland and Betsy Wetherell and her husband Jason both of Taunton. Charles is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Amanda and Jake Wetherell and Caroline and Charlotte Smith. He is also survived by two sisters Betty Sprague, his twin sister of LA and Patricia Medeiros of FL, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick Smith Jr. Funeral services are private at the request of the family. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton. Donations may be made in Charles’s memory to Parkinson’s Research. The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice for their wonderful care.
