It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Mrs. Cecilia Nicholas, née Pierre. She passed peacefully into God's loving embrace on the morning of September 8, 2025, in Massachusetts, USA. She was 97 years old. Cecilia, lovingly known as Ma Elwin or Ma Cecile of La Clery, was born in Soufriere, Saint Lucia on August 28, 1928 to her late parents Joseph Pamphille Pierre and Anna Pierre, née Montclair, both of Soufriere. Mrs. Nicholas was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Pierre, her husband, a loving and devoted father, Joseph Elwin Nicholas and his siblings, Eric Nicholas and Vena Edwards, three children Linda, Gregory, and Earl Nicholas, her infant granddaughter Natasha, and her sisters Anna Joseph of Martinique, Patricia Jean of Palmiste, Soufriere, Lerah Michel of Belfond, Soufriere, Betty Johnson of Vigie, Castries, Fernand Pierre, Euralis Butcher of Guadalupe, and an infant sister who died with her Cecilia's mother from complications in childbirth. Cecilia bids farewell to her eight surviving children and their spouses: Chad Nicholas and his wife, Jean; Claude Nicholas and his wife, Maureen; Jacqueline Nicholas, and Raphael Nicholas, all of Taunton, MA., Yvette Vodor and her husband Christian of Normandy, France; Theodore Pierre of CT.; Norma Birch and her husband John of Woodbridge, VA; and Christian Nicholas and his wife Samantha of Toronto, Canada. Cecilia will also be missed by her 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and countless others to whom she brought joy. Cecilia lived a colorful life of modest elegance, and it was her wish for that to be reflected in the celebration of her life. We invite you to honor her joyful spirit by dressing in colors rather than black. Out of respect for her faith and in observance of Catholic tradition, we ask that, if worn, skirts and dresses be below the knees and with sleeves. A viewing will be held at O'Keefe-Wade on September 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at 70 Washington Street, Taunton, MA 02780. The funeral service will follow at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., located at 31 First Street, Taunton, MA.
