Agostinho "Gus" Almeida

Agostinho “Gus” Almeida, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 5th 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lomba do Loucao Povoacao, St Miguel, Acores to the late Carlos and Filomena (Franco) Duarte. Gus resided in Taunton after immigrating to the United States in 1952 and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1997, which was one of his proudest personal accomplishments. Gus worked at Walk-Over Shoe in Bridgewater for thirty years before retiring due to disability. Gus was a devoted husband, he was a loving father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Survived by his wife Maria (Resendes) Almeida celebrating forty five years of marriage this February. His children Ricardo Almeida and his fiancé Jodi Dawson of Acushnet, Melissa Machado and her husband Nuno Machado of Swansea, Teresa Freitas of Taunton and Cidalia Correia of Winter Haven, FL. His cherished grandchildren Krista Azevedo, Shania Machado, Nathan Machado, Brianna Correia and Noah Machado. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren Jaxtyn Courcy and Rhea Pina. His little buddy the dog he never wanted but shared his food and his recliner with Bella. He also leaves behind his brother Arsenio Duarte and his wife Fatima and sister Mary Jo Diego and Irene Franco all of Taunton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Anthony’s Church on School Street in Taunton on Monday, August 12th at 11 AM. Interment St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
